My wood stove has a big belly, but a small mouth, so first task of the day was to take some pieces too big for said small mouth and make them smaller.
I love the whole idea of chopping wood for the stove. There is such a cozy, romantic feeling, knowing I physically added to the warmth of my home, not just by hauling the wood in. However, using an ax still sets butterflies in my stomach, it does unnerve me a bit. But, I over came my fear and chopped the wood, and I still have both legs in tack. A notch on my farm girl, homesteading belt!
Go see what other 'homesteaders' are doing today. Two of my friends are #15 and #21.

You go farmgirl!!! There is such wonderful satisfaction in doing for oneself isn't there? Even if it means over coming a fear or two along the way! I've never split wood!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are doing the homestead barn hop!
Deb
Julia, you continue to amaze me! Truly! I
ReplyDeletehave never split wood and always wince when I
hear the axe coming down when my dad chops up
the logs.
I need to learn to do this. I just told my husband tonight - we have no more smaller logs and rain is coming Wednesday. If I could get my act together, I could help him out and get some of this done. Not to mention my arms would look fabulous by summer, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to the Barn Hop!
you inspire me julia...
ReplyDeleteMy heat our house with firewood, but my husband deals with it all. My son loves to chop wood. I used to chop wood for our little wood stove when I was growing up. All that work heats you up as well as your house! :) Holly
